The Henry County Local, a 2,500-circulation weekly newspaper in Eminence, Ky., has an opening for a reporter/photographer. The successful applicant will be a multi-talented writer, photographer and paginator/page designer. This person must be dedicated to excelling at local coverage, identifying and producing enterprise stories, and contributing to special sections. Must be organized, deadline-conscious and a stickler for accuracy and fairness. This person reports to the editor. QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.A. degree in journalism or related field or equivalent experience
  • One or more years of experience in the newspaper field, including time worked on a college newspaper
  • Proficiency in photography; familiarity with Photoshop
  • Good news judgment
  • Excellent spelling, grammar, punctuation and accuracy
  • Knowledge of AP style
  • Proficiency in electronic page design, preferably knowledge of InDesign
  • Knowledge and interest in social media and the internet
  • Must be an organized self-starter who can communicate with and assist the news staff and others as needed
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel to assignments

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop relevant, compelling, concise news stories using AP style
  • Cover courts, police, government, schools, business and feature stories
  • Cover and write stories on own initiative or as assigned
  • Contribute columns and editorials for the opinion page
  • Provide photographs to enhance articles
  • Assist with electronic layout, including headlines and captions
  • Post content to www.hclocal.com and social media
  • Assist in proofing news pages
  • Serve as a representative of the Henry County Local to the public
  • Function in a team atmosphere and participate in planning

SCHEDULE: This is a full-time 32 hours a week position with some evening, weekend and holiday coverage.
