Plant Manager

The News-Enterprise, a 6-day community newspaper located in Elizabethtown, KY, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Plant Manager.

The Plant Manager is responsible for printing plant operations including production, distribution, safety, environmental compliance, administrative support, timely delivery and overall reproduction quality of printed publications for both Landmark Community Newspapers and commercial customers through sister plants located in Elizabethtown and Shepherdsville, KY. Responsibilities also include all applicable Department of Transportation (DOT) functions, vehicle dispatch and DOT record keeping and driver and supervisory training, hiring and staff development.

Printing departments at both plants operate Goss/DGM cold-offset web printing presses producing a variety of publication formats. Post-press departments operate pocket inserters, stackers, saddle stitch and inkjet labeling equipment of various makes.

Production plant supervisors and team leaders in both locations report directly to the Plant Manager.

Elizabethtown is a growing community located about 50 miles south of Louisville, KY. Shepherdsville is located off I-65 between Louisville and Elizabethtown.


  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or at least five (5) years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven managerial skills and demonstrated ability to get results.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skill necessary to write reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals and respond to questions from managers, employees, customers, and vendors.
  • Computer literacy and an ability to work well with numbers. Be able to provide pricing for outside customers.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to deal with problems in an appropriate manner.
  • Commitment to high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with and knowledgeable in the application of government regulations regarding general, hazardous materials, chemicals, and ink.
  • Possess excellent time management, planning and organization skills.
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and climb up and down stacked press units.
  • Printing and or newspaper experience a plus.

  • Ensure acceptable business results are achieved: profitability, quality, and safety.
  • Solicit, bid and generate new business revenue.
  • Maintain relationships with all customers to ensure customer satisfaction and retention.
  • Actively participate in any plant process needed to ensure on-time delivery of a quality product.
  • Lead production teams in day-to-day operations for all shifts in accordance with LCN's policies and in compliance with applicable governmental laws including OSHA, EPA, DOT, fire, Life Safety Code, and other regulatory programs.
  • Manage all inventory levels.
  • Plan and implement capital projects related to plant operation.
  • Develop, administer and adhere to plant annual operating budgets.
  • Overall responsibility for physical plant security.
  • Monitor workers' compensation claims to track high-cost or precedent setting situations that are industry specific and take preventive action.
