 The Roane County News, a tri-weekly newspaper in Kingston, Tenn., has an immediate opening for a Press Supervisor to independently perform basic and complex web press operations to produce quality products and low waste. This person will provide training and direction to crew members in order to fulfill production requirements. The press department includes a 9-unit Goss Community Press that includes two- two highs and a three into one color lead feeding into a single folder. Kingston is 30 miles west of Knoxville, Tenn. Qualifications:

  • Five or more years' experience in a management/lead role, preferably in a newspaper production environment
  • 3+ years press experience, printing a variety of web sizes and formats
  • Ability to perform basic math
  • Ability to operate a computer using Word and Excel
  • Effective planning, organizing and analytical skills
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record
  • Ability to properly operate fork and clamp truck or ability to learn how to operate a fork and clamp truck
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds and climb up and down stacked press units
  • Proven commitment to quality output and customer service

 Essential Functions:

  • Produce print and packaging jobs of the highest quality main newspaper, ancillary products such as targeted, niche and total market coverage publications as well as commercial printing, including other community weekly newspapers on deadline with a high degree of skill and no supervision.
  • Operate press for external and internal print customer jobs.
  • Lead the shift and set an example for all shift employees to follow be time and have a positive attitude even when problems occur.
  • Use the shift's time wisely, defining and clearly delegating work assignments.
  • Be responsible for the training of press technicians.
  • Manage print schedules for greatest efficiency and productivity.
  • Manage newsprint to achieve monthly and annual consumption and waste goals.
  • Keep essential press parts on hand at all times; order all press parts after obtaining publisher's approval.
  • Interpret information from measures to improve shift performance.
  • Carefully monitor all consumables on a daily basis.
  • Lead maintenance programs on all equipment and ensure proper maintenance records documentation.
  • Oversee and ensure a clean, safe work environment.
  • Ensure quality output and excellent customer service.
  • Safely operate fork and clamp truck
  • Assist the publisher in the performance review process for lower level technicians. Document employees' actions in both positive and negative situations.
  • Review employees' timecards making sure they are complete and accurate.

 Work Schedule:  Work schedule is Sunday-Thursday.
