The Trimble Banner is currently accepting applications for the position of editor with the upcoming retirement of the editor. The Trimble Banner is a weekly newspaper with circulation of 1,350. Bedford is located just 40 miles north of Louisville, Ky. and 10 miles from Madison, Ind.  The company offers a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) and paid time off benefits.  Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field
  • Three years of newspaper experience or similar writing experience
  • Strong skills in writing, researching, interviewing, editing and photography
  • Good news judgment with a sense of timely reporting
  • Excellent spelling, grammar, punctuation and accuracy; proficient knowledge of AP style
  • Proficient in electronic page design, preferably InDesign
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Working knowledge of Internet, web-based content, social media, Facebook
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license

 Essential Functions:

  • Write local news, sports and feature stories on a weekly basis.
  • Gather, edit and proofread submitted copy.
  • Develop a team of correspondents to assist in coverage of local meetings and events.
  • Take role in development and timely completion of special sections.
  • Perform page layout, photo workup and pagination of each issue.
  • Post newspaper online and handle social media accounts for the newspaper
  • Provide support to cover office including answering telephone, dealing with walk-in traffic, sales of classified and display ads and subscriptions.
  • Actively participate and take leadership role in weekly staff meetings with Carrollton office.
  • Be active participant in community and newspaper projects, events and activities.

 The position reports to the Publisher.

 Work Schedule: This is a full-time, 40-hour exempt position. Variable days and hours as needed. Night and weekend work to be expected.
