Advertising Manager

The LaFollette Press has an immediate opening for an Advertising Manager. The successful candidate will work with one other account executive and will be responsible for overseeing all advertising revenue as well as maintaining an active account list of his/her own. This person will also oversee the newspaper's classified sales representative.  This person will report to the publisher/regional manager of the Roane County News.

LaFollette Press is a Thursday weekly paper with a circulation of approximately 5,000. LaFollette is located about 33 miles north of Knoxville, Tennessee, in Campbell County, on the Cumberland Plateau.  The town is surrounded by mountains and lakes, and has a population of approximately 44,000. Qualifications:

  • Proven track record in newspaper or other media advertising sales experience preferred as well as outstanding customer service
  • Degree in marketing or advertising a plus, but not a requirement
  • Good organizational skills; detail oriented
  • Demonstrated high energy level and self-motivation
  • Strong listening, written and oral communication skills
  • Must have computer proficiency, including working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Above average math skills
  • Online selling and social media knowledge a plus
  • Demonstration of high integrity
  • Demonstration of team-oriented behavior
  • Ability to overcome objections and meet deadlines and quotas
  • Ability to understand and live with deadline driven business
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license to make sales calls

Essential Functions:

  • Service existing account list and develop new customers; handle errors and questions
  • Order, correct and approve ads for all papers and special sections in timely and accurate fashion
  • Conduct needs analysis, develop relationships, prospect new businesses, write proposals
  • Work with other departments (accounting, production, editorial) to solve problems and improve processes
  • Identify and develop profitable print and online advertising products and services to meet existing customer needs in the local and area market
  • Achieve the advertising revenue goals of the newspaper on a monthly and annual basis
  • Manage and coordinate sales/production of special sections
  • Provide proofs to clients as requested
  • Participate in community events and public relations functions when available
  • Work to keep advertiser aging balances current and assist in the collection of past due accounts
  • Keep paperwork and files current and accessible
  • Handle other Account Executive's desk when needed, serving as "vacation buddy"
