Press Team Leader

Standard Publishing, a Landmark Community Newspapers, LLC property located in Shepherdsville, Ky., is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Press Team Leader.  The Press Team Leader is responsible for the effective and efficient operation and maintenance of a six-tower DGM 430 cold offset press line with a DGM 1030 folder and Enkel splicers to provide accurate high quality reproduction for a variety of magazine, tabloid, broadsheet and digest formats for Landmark Community Newspapers publications and commercial work. Direction, leadership, training and recruitment of productive press operators are paramount. The Press Team Leader reports directly to the Plant Manager and indirectly to the Publisher of the newspaper. Shepherdsville is a growing community and the county seat of Bullitt County, which is located about 20 miles south of Louisville, Ky. Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Minimum of at least 5 years' press experience on a Goss/DGM press line or equivalent
  • Proven commitment to quality output, deadlines and customer service
  • Physically capable of standing for long periods of time with routine bending, stooping, standing, climbing and lifting
  • Able to lift up to 70+ pounds and push/pull up to 100 pounds 
  • Hand dexterity is also required and vision that provides quick and accurate movement of materials and quality control as well as accurate color definition
  • Mechanical aptitude required
  • Ability to properly operate tow/clamp truck
  • Must have a valid driver's license

 Essential Functions:

  • Perform all functions of Press Operator Levels 1 through 6
  • Efficiently and effectively schedule all intercompany and commercial press runs and press team shifts
  • Maintain, adjust and repair all press units, folders, roll paster-splicers, conveyors, stacker-counters, press motors and drives
  • Measure, maintain adjust and replace plate jars on plate cylinders and micrometric, copper, fountain and water rollers and maintain appropriate iron-to-iron settings on press units
  • Maintain, adjust and replace folder cutting knives, tucker blades, folding cylinder jaws, springs and cushions on the press folder
  • Maintain , adjust and replace press unit drive shafts
  • Maintain, adjust and replace all appropriate ink, water, oil, grease, lubrication and chemistry settings involved with the press and folder
  • Efficiently and effectively manage newsprint, ink, chemistry and supply inventory of the press department, working closely with supply vendors for routing shipments to maintain press operations
  • Efficiently and effectively maintain a proper and documented schedule of routine press maintenance
  • Safely operate fork and clamp truck
  • Adhere to all MSDS and OSHA requirements
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and local plant guidelines
  • Work with others in a team atmosphere
