The Brunswick Beacon, a weekly publication owned by Landmark Community Newspapers, LLC, in Brunswick County, NC, is looking for the right candidate to fill the Bookkeeper position. This position will be responsible for accurately performing all bookkeeping functions for the newspaper in a timely manner as required by the company's bookkeeping policies and practices. This person will also assist in day-to-day activities of the front office to ensure high levels of customer service. This is a full-time (40 hours per week) hourly position that reports to the publisher. QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent math and accounting skills
  • Ability to perform tasks with high degree of accuracy and thoroughness
  • Experience with Excel, Word and billing software
  • Bookkeeping experience including billing, cash receipts application, deposit functions, and account reconciliations
  • Excellent customer service skills; courteous and pleasant demeanor with the public
  • Ability to assertively pursue collection of delinquent accounts
  • Willingness and ability to multi-task while maintaining a high degree of accuracy

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Record sales and cash receipt transactions in a timely manner to the proper accounts, balance and submit all deposit transactions to division headquarters, process billings and adjustments through the SNAP software system
  • Handle all office bookkeeping functions including account reconciliations, coding vendor invoices and submitting them on a timely basis to division headquarters for payment, etc.
  • Handle account collections and credit approvals
  • Be a back-up receptionist, answering the phone and providing service to walk-in customers
  • Communicate effectively with other departments and with division headquarters
  • Work directly with attorney's offices and towns to schedule, confirm, send quotes and proof legal notices
